I would like to welcome you to this important SAM topic: "water conservation".

Is water an essential liquid for our lives? Imagine how would be like to have a day without water. What would you drink? How would you clean yourself? In what would you swim?  In fact, from 57% to 75% of your body contains water. Did you know that 1.4 billion people don't have access to  drinking water?. The question is: How are you helping to conserve this precious liquid in your region?

ESTIMATED TIME:  60 minutes

UNIT GLOBAL GOAL: To develop students’ ability to talk about the topic of water

LEVEL INFO: Eleventh graders aged between 15 and 17 years old.

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE: 1. vocabulary about nature: environment, climate change, pollution, rivers, lakes, ocean, ponds, animals,

human beings,

2. Adjectives: clean, dirty, good, beautiful, cute, nice

SKILLS: listening, speaking, writing and reading

  • Key vocabulary: detergents, solvents, insecticides, solvents,  sewage, pollution, contaminants, sewage, natural environment,  wastewaters, pesticides, fertilizers
  • Collocations:  drinking water, chemical compounds, chemical waste, water treatment
  • OBJECTIVES:
  • To analyze the different ways people use water.
  • To participate on forums setting up alternatives to conserve water.
  • To develop critical thinking about their own use of water.
  • To recognize and classify new vocabulary about conserving water.
  • To scan a text getting especific information for answering comprehension questions.   
  • To  raise awareness about the importance of saving water in our environment (school, home, city..)
